ATLANTA, March 3 (UPI) -- Atlanta jurors in a suit against Ford began considering Wednesday whether Ford was indifferent in a 2000 accident that already has cost it $33 million.
On Tuesday jurors awarded the family of Kelsey Sasser $30 million for a 2000 accident that left her paralyzed from the chest down, the Detroit News reported.
The rear fold-down seat in the family's Lincoln LS had collapsed on her back. A defective latch was blamed for allowing the seat to collapse.
On Wednesday jurors began hearing the family's lawyers argue Ford officials showed a "conscious indifference of the consequences" for failing to recall its 2000 Lincoln LS sedan with the seat latch defect.
The purpose of the plaintiff's latest presentation was to gain punitive damages against the carmaker.
It's believed to be the first lawsuit involving such a problem with this car model.
