NEW DELHI, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- India needs more than 1 million voting machines for its first all-electronic general election set for April or May, the BBC reports.
A final date has not been set for the elections.

India is the world's largest democracy with more than 1 billion people and an electorate of more than 668 million in 543 constituencies.
The country's election commission in New Delhi said it believes it will do a good job conducting the election.
The machines will come from two state-run companies.
