CHICAGO, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Subaru of America Thursday unveiled its line-up of third-generation all-wheel drive Outback models at the 2004 Chicago Auto Show.
A new 3.0-liter, 250-horsepower, 6-cylinder engine powers redesigned flagship 2005 Outback R models. The 2.5 XT is powered by a 250-horsepower, intercooled, turbocharged 4-cylinder boxer engine.
The Outback was one of the first popular crossover utility vehicles combining the attributes of a passenger car and a sport-utility vehicle with all-wheel drive standard. New Outback models will include front seat side air bags and side curtain air bags for all passengers.
"By offering new high performance, premium-content Outback models, Subaru is positioned to compete with the growing number and diversity of crossover vehicles," said Fred Adcock, executive vice president, Subaru of America.
