WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Super Bowl parties will give a big boost to television and team apparel sales, according to a survey released Monday by the National Retail Federation.
There will be 7.5 million parties and almost 44 million partygoers celebrating Super Bowl Sunday, the survey said.
Consumers are expected to buy 1.5 million television sets and 4.5 million team clothing items, according to the NRF 2004 Super Bowl Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey.
Of the nearly 8,700 people surveyed who said they would either throw or attend a party, 5.8 percent said they planned to buy a TV and 10.2 percent said they would buy team apparel. Another 3.3 percent said they would buy new furniture for the Super Bowl, including recliners.
Almost 87 percent of those hosting or attending a party said they would buy snacks, the survey said.
The poll was conducted from Jan. 8-14.
