UPS raising prices, barely

ATLANTA, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- United Parcel Service plans to raise ground delivery rates 1.9 percent, its smallest increase in at least seven years, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

With heightened competition in the U.S. package-delivery industry, UPS is expected to announce new rates for ground-based shipments by on Friday.

Such shipments generate about half of UPS's revenue and have climbed in price by an average of 3.3 percent annually since 1997. The shipping giant typically sets new rates around this time each year to take effect in early January.

These generally are matched by rivals FedEx Corp. and DHL Worldwide Express.
