Airport workers to strike Heathrow

LONDON, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Ticket agents and baggage and cargo handlers at Heathrow Airport will strike for 48 hours next month, union officials said Friday.

The BBC reported about 1,000 members of the Transport and General Workers Union would conduct a walkout on Nov. 2 over pay.

The union said the Swissport UK and Swissport Cargo workers had not been given a pay rise for 18 months.

Talks will be held Wednesday to try to resolve the dispute after more than nine out of 10 workers backed the walkout in a ballot.

Among airlines affected will be Aer Lingus, El Al, and Malaysian and Singapore airlines, the union said.
