Good news at the pump as gas prices fall

NEW YORK, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Motorists should continue to see some relief at the pumps as gas prices begin to dip in the weeks to come.

"The surge is over," Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the Lundberg Survey that tallies prices at service stations across the country, told CNN Sunday.

Over the past three weeks, the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular rose just .14 of a cent per gallon, to $1.7205, the Lundberg report said.

"I'm calling that no change," Lundberg told CNN.

The average price of gas zoomed nearly 16 cents per gallon between Aug. 8 and Aug. 22, because of the huge blackout that closed several refineries and a pipeline break that affected a number of Western cities.

"Both of those have been corrected," Lundberg said.

Plus, she said, the price of crude oil has dropped to its lowest price since spring. "All point to lower prices at the pump," Lundberg said.
