DETROIT, April 25 (UPI) -- Membership in the United Auto Workers dropped 10 percent in 2002 with layoffs and retirements affecting membership rolls. The UAW said its ranks declined from 701,818 in 2001 to 638,722 last year at a time when private sector union membership declined less than 5 percent nationally.
