McDonald's recalls bobble head dolls

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- McDonald's Corp. recalled about 100,000 Chicago Bears bobble head dolls Wednesday because the paint on the figurines may contain high levels of lead.

McDonald's sold the figures at restaurants in the Chicago area, northwest Indiana, central Illinois and Rockford between Aug. 19 and Sept. 12 for about $5 each. The recalled 7-inch figurines were manufactured by Bobble Dreams USA of Fountain Valley, Calif., and feature likenesses of All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher and running back Anthony Thomas dressed in their Bears football uniforms.

The McDonald's logo and player's name are printed across the front of the base, and labels on the bottom of the figure read, "Bobble Dreams USA," "Made in China," and "Official NFL Licensed Product."

McDonald's had not received any reports of injuries or illnesses involving the dolls. But lead paint, if ingested by children over time, can cause lead poisoning, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

Consumers are advised to keep the figurines away from children and can contact McDonald's at 800-244-6227 or mcdonalds.com to receive a refund. They should not return the figures to McDonald's restaurants.

In a separate action, Alfrey's Sausage Co. Inc., doing business as Overbrook Brand Meats of Mount Pleasant, Pa., recalled 185 pounds of cooked and cured beef loaf that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The packages also were stamped with the date codes 219 and 249. The beef loaf was produced between Aug. 5 and Sept. 6 and distributed to retail stores in Pennsylvania.

Consumers can contact the Alfrey Co. plant manager at 724-547-5270.
