95,700 mowers recalled

WASHINGTON, March 5 (UPI) -- Murray Inc. of Brentwood, Tenn., Tuesday recalled 89,500 rear-engine and 6,200 mid-engine riding mowers because the fuel tank can crack, leading to fuel leaks and a possible burn or fire hazard.

Murray said it has received 950 reports of the tanks cracking, leading to six fires, one that resulted in minor burns. The recalled riding lawn mowers have 30" cutting decks and were sold under Murray, Murray Select, Craftsman and Wizard brand names.

The recall includes model Nos. 30560, 30565, 30577X7, 502.256210, 536.270212, 30560X5, 30575X7, 30577X8, 502.256220, MOM6115A59, 30560X60, 3057X8, 30577X31, 502.270210, MOM6115A89, 30560X99, 3057X31, 502.251250 and 502.270211.

The mowers were sold at hardware and department stores nationwide between January 1995 and January 2002 for between $700 and $1,200.

The recalled mid-engine riding mowers have 30" cutting decks and the brand names Murray and Yard King printed on the front. Models involved in this recall are 309005X10, 309304X8 and 309306X89.

They were sold by department and hardware stores nationwide from February 2001 through January 2002 for between $800 and $950.
