IMF disburses $3 billion more to Turkey

WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The International Monetary Fund approved Wednesday a deal to provide Turkey with

another $3 billion of the $19 billion already committed as the country struggles to climb out of its economic crisis.

The latest and final tranche of the three-year stand-by arrangement will be available to the country immediately, the IMF said. But Turkey is angling for another $10 billion from the international agency as the country has been hard hit by the global economic slump and the ongoing war on terrorism.

Turkey is NATO's only predominantly Muslim member and has already agreed to deploy 90 special forces personnel to the U.S.-led anti-terrorism campaign in Afghanistan.
