Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The large Fawn Fire north of Redding, Calif. has grown to 7,544 acres, burning over 100 structures and threatening thousands more.
The fire is just 10% contained after it was started on Wednesday, Cal Fire, the state's firefighting agency, said in its most recent update. So far, no fatalities have been reported.
The Shasta County Sheriff's office said Thursday that approximately 4,000 residents have been evacuated and another 30,000 have been affected by the fire.
Jeremy Wright, a local home and business owner, told KCRA News that he had never had fires come so close to his property in the 20 plus years he has lived in the area.
"We had every hose we could find going," he told the television station.
Despite his efforts, he said he still lost three buildings. He was able to keep his large shop and said he will stick around to protect his home.
Alexandra Souverneva, 30, of Palo Alto, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of causing the fire, ABC 10 reports. Souverneva was found trespassing and approached firefighters to ask for water and medical attention. After being taken to a local hospital she was questioned by law enforcement, leading officers to believe she caused the fire.
Local prosecutors are recommending she be charged with arson to wildland, which carries enhanced penalties, the station reports.
Meanwhile, crews working to suppress the fire are expected to see conditions shift in their favor over the weekend.
Cal Fire said that winds will diminish over the weekend and rain is expected late Monday through Tuesday afternoon.
