May 21 (UPI) -- The Dallas County Sheriff's Office launched a manhunt Monday for a 25-year-old inmate who escaped custody while he was being transported.
Officials said Justin Gonzalez was handcuffed to another inmate inside a sheriff's van when he slipped loose and made an escape. The sheriff's office was transporting inmates from Garland City Jail to Dallas County Jail.
Police said they last saw Gonzalez running toward an industrial area in Garland, a suburb of Dallas.
Sheriff's office spokesman Raul Reyna said police arrested Gonzalez for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He has previous arrests for unlawful carry of a weapon and drug-related charges.
DSO said Gonzalez was wearing a yellow or green vest and blue jeans and was barefoot at the time of his escape.
