June 5 (UPI) -- A Florida charter boat captain shared video of a surprise encounter with an eastern diamondback rattlesnake swimming off the Florida Bay.

The video, recorded by Capt. Ted Wilson of Islamorada Fishing Guide, shows the approximately 5-foot-long venomous snake swimming near the charter boat in waters near the Florida Keys.

"I've never seen a rattlesnake in the Keys," Wilson says in the video, "much less a 5-footer swimming out in the middle of the water."

The serpent turns its attention on the boat and starts slithering across the surface of the water toward the vessel, leading Wilson and his passengers to speed off.
