Apple TV+ confirmed in a press release Wednesday that it renewed the series for Season 2.

News of the renewal comes ahead of the show's Season 1 finale, which airs Friday.

"The Mosquito Coast has captured the imagination of viewers all over the world, not only because of its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure but also for the engaging family story and captivating performances at its heart," Apple head of programming Matt Cherniss said. "We can't wait to find out what comes next for the Fox family, and for audiences to continue to experience the thrill ride."

The Mosquito Coast is based on the novel by Paul Theroux, the uncle of series star Justin Theroux. The series follows Allie Fox (Theroux), a husband and father who uproots his family for Mexico while on the run from the U.S. government.

Melissa George co-stars as Allie's wife, Margot, with Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman as Allie and Margot's daughter and son, Dina and Charlie. The series is created and executive produced by Neil Cross.

Season 1 premiered on Apple TV+ in April. The season finale "will see the Foxes forced into a crisis that will either bring them back together or tear them apart forever."
