Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Netflix said Tuesday it is working with Selena Quintanilla's family on a series about the murdered Tejano music icon.
"Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory," executive producer Suzette Quintanilla, Selena's sister, said in a statement. "Viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives."
The Texas-born singer-songwriter was shot and killed by a former employee in 1995. She was 23. Jennifer Lopez portrayed the artist in the 1997 movie, Selena.

Moisés Zamora -- whose credits include Star and American Crime -- is the show's writer and executive producer.
"I'm writing this amazing story!" Zamora tweeted.
