Issa Rae joins voice cast of 'Into the Spider-Verse' sequel

June 5 (UPI) -- Insecure and The Hate U Give actress Issa Rae has landed a role in the sequel to the 2018 animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline confirmed Rae's participation in the project Friday.

Variety said she will play Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, the superhero adventure is slated for theatrical release on Oct. 7, 2022.

The original movie's stars, Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, are reprising their roles of Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen in the sequel.

No details about the new movie's plot have been released.
