Bob Hope hosted the event which featured the newly created Women's Liberation Movement disrupting the popular beauty competition, stating it demeaned women. The contest is also famous for featuring the first black woman to be crowned Miss World, Miss Grenada, who beat out favorite Miss Sweden.

Kinnear and Manville joined the cast alongside Keeley Hawes, Rhys Ifans and Phyllis Logan. Keira Knightley, Gugu Mbatha Raw and Jessie Buckley were previously announced to be starring in the film.

Philippa Lowthorpe (Three Girls) is directing the film based on a script by Rebecca Frayn with revisions by Gaby Chiappe. Suzanne Mackie (The Crown) is producing with Sarah-Jane Wheale.

Production began Monday in London.
