Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music icon Julie Andrews will play a role in the upcoming superhero movie Aquaman.

"We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered," the film's producer Peter Safran told EW.com. "And when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer."

Andrews will play the mythical sea creature that helps the title character (played by Jason Momoa) make peace between Atlantis and the human world, Variety reported.

Co-starring Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson, the film is set for release Dec. 21 -- two days before Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt, opens in theaters.
