Dan Stevens joins Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm in 'Pale Blue Dot'

May 11 (UPI) -- Dan Stevens has been cast in upcoming astronaut love drama Pale Blue Dot that stars Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm.

The film follows Portman as a married astronaut who returns home and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut, played by Hamm. Stevens is set to portray Portman's husband, noted The Hollywood Reporter, with Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) playing a trainee who begins a relationship with Hamm, creating a love triangle.

The project is inspired by a true-life astronaut love triangle that took place in 2007 and involved a female mission specialist attempting to kidnap a rival.

Pale Blue Dot will explore the theory that astronauts lose their sense of reality when they return home after long periods of time in space.

Stevens will be reteaming with Legion creator Noah Hawley who is directing from a script by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. The actor stars in the lead role on Legion, an X-Men based series that airs on FX.

Reese Witherspoon, who was previously attached to star, is producing along with Bruna Papandrea.

Stevens also recently joined the cast of punk rock drama Her Smell which stars Elisabeth Moss, Amber Heard and Cara Delevigne.
