Jan. 24 (UPI) -- John Boyega suits up to protect earth from giant monsters in the latest trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising.

The clip, released Wednesday, features Boyega having to give up his party-filled lifestyle to pilot giant robots named Jaegers to fight off the monsters referred to as Kaiju and live up to the legacy left behind by his deceased father, a character originally portrayed by Idris Elba in the first film.

Boyega is also seen helping to inspire and unite a group of new Jaeger pilots as a new wave of Kaiju descend upon the earth.

"There are pilots we remember as legends, but they didn't start out that way. They started out like us," he says.

Action scenes on display include Boyega confronted by a rogue Jaeger and a robot vs. monster battle royale featuring multiple Jaegers in action.

Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, the sequel to 2013's Pacific Rim also stars Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day, reprising their roles from the first film, along with Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian and Cailee Spaeny.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is set to arrive in theaters on March 23.
