Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Tuesday's Google doodle celebrated what would have been the 139th birthday of Swiss-born artist Paul Klee.
The colorful, abstract image is a nod to the distinctive style of Klee, who incorporated elements of expressionism, cubism and surrealism into his watercolors, drawings and prints.
Klee also taught at the Bauhaus school of art, design and architecture, and authored the modern-art bible Paul Klee Notebooks.
He died in 1940 at the age of 60.
