By   |   Sept. 18, 1995

PHOENIX, Sept. 17 -- Danny Ainge, who played on two NBA champions and appeared in six NBA Finals, Sunday announced his retirement from the Phoenix Suns to become a broadcast analyst. 'I'm really excited about the opportunity,' said Ainge, who begins work this season for Turner Sports.

'It's going to be a new challenge in my life.' The veteran guard played 14 seasons with the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Suns after being a second- round draft pick out Brigham Young. Ainge, 36, joined Boston in November 1991 after his contract was bought out from baseball's Toronto Blue Jays, where he played three seasons. He was a member of the Celtics' 1984 and 1986 NBA championship squads, reaching the NBA Finals twice more with Boston and once each with Portland and Phoenix. Ainge, who averaged 11.5 points over his career, has played in 183 playoff games, third all-time among NBA players.
