ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic Wednesday promoted assistant Brian Hill to head coach and appointed former coach Matt Guokas to a front office position.

The 45-year-old Hill was a head coach at Lehigh University for eight seasons before serving as an assistant at Penn State.

'Brian Hill was the most logical choice to suceed Matty,' said Magic Vice President of Basketball Operations Bob Vander Weide. 'Brian was considered one of the top assistant coaches in the NBA this past season and will make an outstanding head coach.

'His qualities of hard work, knowledge of the game and his ability to coach young talent fit in perfectly with our long term goals for this ballclub.'

Guokas, who will take over as Vice President of Basketball Development, has been head coach of the Magic in each of the team's first four seasons. Guokas was 111-217 in four seasons with Orlando.

Behind Rookie of the Year Shaquille O'Neal, the Magic were 41-41 this past season and barely missed qualifying for its first playoff berth.
