Nuggets obtain Woolridge from Lakers

DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets continued their roster overhaul Friday, acquiring forward Orlando Woolridge from the Los Angeles Lakers for second-round draft choices in 1993 and 1995.

The deal was the second this week for the Nuggets, who have been one of the league's busiest teams since the NBA draft.

On Wednesday, Denver traded forward Danny Schayes to the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Terry Mills, the Bucks' first-round draft choice.

Woolridge, 30, the Lakers' top reserve scorer the past two years, averaged 11.6 points last season and was the league's fifth-best field goal shooter.

'One important aspect in rebuilding our club is to have a good blend of youth and experience,' Nuggets general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said. '(Woolridge) is a proven scorer who should be extremely exciting in our open court system. He also will be great with helping our young people learn the NBA.'

The 6-foot-9 Woolridge was the No. 6 pick overall in the 1981 NBA draft. He played five seasons in Chicago, averaging 19.4 points per game. Woolridge played two years in New Jersey, and then signed with the Lakers in 1988 as an unrestricted free agent.

Woolridge enters the 1990-91 season with 9,512 points in his nine seasons.
