BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana State Tuesday named assistant Mike Archer to replace Head Coach Bill Arnsparger.
Archer, 33, was chosen over Georgia assistant George Haffner and Denver Broncos quarterback coach Mike Shanahan.
'Archer's a key element of the present LSU staff and hopes to build on that,' said Craig Cordes, chairman of the search committee. 'He's very respective of NCAA regulations, he's a natural leader.'
Arnsparger will leave LSU after the Sugar Bowl to become athletic director at Florida. In the past three years Arnsparger has directed the Tigers to a 26-7-2 overall record and 13-3-2 mark in the SEC.
