MEXICO CITY -- World super featherweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez scored a third-round technical knockout over Manny Hernandez Tuesday night as part of an exhibition to benefit survivors of the November gas explosion outside Mexico City.

In another fight on the seven-bout car, super bantamweight Lupe Pintor, the World Boxing Council title holder, defeated Ronny Gary of the United States by technical knockout at 47 seconds of the sixth round.

All proceeds from the fights were to go to survivors of the Nov. 19 gas explosion in San Juan Ixhuatepec in which some 500 were killed and another 4,500 injured.

Mexico's boxers at the Los Angeles Olympics -- bantamweight Hector Lopez and featherweights Luciano Solis and Javier Camacho -- made their professional debuts, respectively defeating Mexicans Roberto Solis, Fernando Martin and Felipe Garcia.

WBC first flyweight challenger German Torres of Mexico, knocked out fellow countryman Luis 'Pringa' Hernandez at the end of the fifth round.

Puerto Rican Hector 'Macho' Camacho, the former world super featherweight champion, scored a sixth-round TKO over Mexican Leoncio Ortis in a lightweight bout.

'I am a crazy little man from the street,' Camacho said. 'The people in my country, Puerto Rico, support me even though some people do not like me. But I try to put on a show in the ring, just the same as (Muhammad) Ali.'

Camacho faces American lightweight Louie Burke Jan. 19 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Chavez of Mexico easily defeated Hernandez of United States at 2:29 of the third round.

Some 10,000 fans attended the exhibition organized by the State of Mexico, where the explosion occurred, the WBC and promoter Don King.
