Trump, Xi condemn North Korea nuclear test

Sept. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed their views on North Korea's recent nuclear test during a 45-minute phone call on Wednesday.

Trump and Xi both condemned the latest provocation as "destabilizing," according to a statement from the White House following the call.

"The two leaders condemned North Korea's latest provocative and destabilizing action and noted North Korea's current path is dangerous to the world and not in its own interest," the statement read.

The communication from the White House, however, did not go into details of the "coordination" that is to take place between Washington and Beijing following the call, and what "further action" would be taken with the goal of "achieving the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula."

Trump told reporters after the call the two sides held a "very, very frank and very strong call."

"We will not be putting up with what's happening in North Korea," Trump said.

Bloomberg reported Wednesday the United States is circulating a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council, proposing crude oil sanctions and a ban on North Korea textile exports and "guest workers."

The resolution and possible new sanctions are to be discussed on Sept. 11, according to the report.

Neither China nor Russia has signaled an interest in imposing an oil ban on North Korea.
