Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Explosions near Baghdad Monday killed at least 20 civilians, security officials said.

Police said a bomb-laden vehicle went off in east Baghdad's Jamila vegetable market in Sard City, east of the Iraqi capital, killing 11 and injuring at least 15.

Earlier, an improvised explosive device killed four people and injured at least eight others in the al-Yosufiya area of south Baghdad. At least five more people died in two other car bomb attacks in the city Sunday.

Conflicting accounts of casualties were announced, but Baghdad is the scene of nearly daily bomb attacks.

No group took responsibility for Monday's bombings, but Iraqi security officials typically blame the Islamic State terrorist group, Turkey's Anadolu Agency said.

The attacks came a day after Iraqi military forces announced they'd captured the northern district of Tal Afar -- after a week-long battle -- which is said to be the last IS stronghold in the country.
