GAZA, July 19 (UPI) -- The Gaza Health Ministry said 318 people have died since Israel began airstrikes on the strip July 8.

At least 11 people died in Gaza on Saturday and most of the deaths during the conflict have been civilians, the United Nations said.

One Israeli died Saturday after a rocket hit Negev, the Israel Defense Force reported. Four others were injured by that attack.

Meanwhile, Israel's attempts to destroy tunnels from Gaza into Israel didn't prevent Hamas from slipping through a passage Saturday and killing two Israeli soldiers on patrol.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Friday that the IDF plans to expand the scope of its ground operation in Gaza, which began Thursday.
