FREEPORT, Bahamas, April 11 (UPI) -- A 56 year-old British man was attacked and killed inside his mother's home in Emerald Bay, Grand Bahama on Tuesday.
Originally from Devon, Edgar Dart had moved to Canada 16 years ago. He and his young son were visiting his mother after his father's recent death.
His cousin, Michael Dart, believes one of the young boys in the house was injured by a machete during the attack. His cousin was shot, Michael speculated, because "he intervened when there was an altercation. His young son was there as well -- it is barbaric, horrific, and just really shocking."
According to Assistant Commissioner Emrick Seymour of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, three robbers cut the phone lines prior to entering the house. Once inside, they tied up the family members, fatally shooting Edgar Dart during a struggle. Jewelry and other belongings were stolen by the masked men, who fled in the gardener's van.
A police investigation is ongoing. No arrests have yet been made.
