Vice President Biden discusses Ukraine crisis with president of Cyprus

The White House acknowledged Tuesday that Vice President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades regarding the crisis and Ukraine, and noted his appreciation for the European Council's condemnation of Russia's military incursion into Ukraine's Crimea region.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday regarding the crisis in Ukraine.

According to the White House, the two leaders "consulted on steps to lead to a de-escalation of the situation and peaceful resolution." Biden welcomed the European Council's condemnation of Russia's military incursion into Ukraine's Crimea region.

Biden and Anastasiades also discussed Cyprus settlement efforts and the resumption of U.N.-led talks.
