KIRYAT SHMONA, Israel, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Israeli artillery units shelled areas in southern Lebanon Sunday in response to two Katyusha rockets fired at northern Israel, the army said.
Two rockets exploded in open areas near Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel, causing no casualties or damage, the army said. In response, Israeli artillery shelled areas identified as the source of the rocket fire, the army said.
The (Beirut) Daily Star said the Israeli shelling caused damage but no casualties.
An additional two rockets exploded in southern Lebanon near the village Sarda not far from Marjayoun, Israel Radio reported. There were no reports of casualties or damage, the radio report said.
No one claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon warned Israel "will not tolerate being fired upon from Lebanese territory and will not allow anyone to disrupt the lives of Israeli citizens. We hold the Lebanese government and the Lebanese armed forces responsible for this morning's attack," Ynetnews.com reported.
Israel also filed a complaint with U.N. forces stationed in Lebanon.
