A man in the Siberian republic of Buryatia reported to police he couldn't find his dog.

During their investigation, police said they talked to the man's 28-year-old neighbor, who admitted to sneaking through the man's fence and killing his German shepherd with a knife.

"As became clear, the suspect regularly used that sort of meat in his diet," said a police spokesman.

The man faces up to five years in prison on theft charges.
