TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Thousands of Israelis attended a memorial in Tel Aviv marking 18 years since the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Rabin's grandson, Yonathan, called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to give peace talks with the Palestinians a chance, The Jerusalem Post, Yetnews.com and Maariv said.
"For the first time in years, a special opportunity has been put in your path, to take advantage of a unique situation in order to bring peace and solve both the Iranian and Palestinian conflicts at the same time. All of this with support and encouragement from the international community," The Jerusalem Post quoted him saying Saturday night.
Rabin was shot by right-wing Israeli radical Yigal Amir while participating in a peace rally on Nov.4, 1995. Saturday night's rally was conducted according to the Hebrew date marking Rabin's death. The Hebrew calendar is a lunisolar calendar used to determine the dates of Jewish holidays and also commemorate deaths of relatives.
