Bombings and arrests continue in Iraq Saturday

BAGHDAD, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Iraqi police made more than two dozen arrests Saturday in various raids aimed at suspected terrorists, security sources told the National Iraqi News Agency.

Most of the arrests were made in Anbar and Salahuddin provinces and were based on intelligence reports linking them to insurgent elements.

The success of the raids was offset by a continuation of the ongoing violence in Iraq.

A roadside bomb west of Mosul injured six police officers and eight civilians Friday night, sources told NINA.

An off-duty policeman was gunned down by unknown assailants near his home in Muqdadiyah.

Three civilians were killed in the center of Fallujah Saturday when someone apparently attached a so-called sticky bomb to their car.
