8 killed, 20 injured in two attacks in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Eight people were killed, including four police officers, and 20 others were injured in two separate attacks in Iraq Sunday, security officials said.

In the northeastern city of Samara, clashes between police officers and gunmen left four police officers dead and seven others injured, IraqiNews.com reported.

"Armed clashes took place in Jalaam area between the police forces and gunmen to result in killing four policemen and injuring seven others in addition to destroying three police vehicles," a security source told IraqiNews.com. "A security force hurried to the clashes area and transferred the injuries to the nearby hospital for treatment and the dead bodies to the morgue."

In Baghdad, two improvised explosive devices were detonated in the Amiriya area, IraqiNews.com said.

"An IED exploded in Anal Street of Amiriya area, whereas the other IED exploded near the entrance of al-Khadhraa neighborhood of Amiriya area of western Baghdad to result in killing four civilians and injuring 13 others," another security source told the website. "The security forces hurried to the explosion area and transferred the injuries to the nearby hospital for treatment."
