Canada's RCMP launches National Division of investigators

OTTAWA, June 3 (UPI) -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police officially launched its anti-corruption National Division at a ceremony in Ottawa Monday.

RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulsen said the National Division will focus on "safeguarding Canada's political, economic and social integrity through investigations that focus on corruption and criminality, here and abroad."

Examples of the national division's sphere of influence will include "Canadians going overseas to engage in terrorism ... a Senate expense scandal or a variety of other political threats ... high-profile, very sensitive investigations that deal with national security, political threats, threats to the economy [and] social threats," CTV News reported.
