Yemeni group calls for prisoner release

SANAA, Yemen, April 1 (UPI) -- Dozens of activists protested in front of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, seeking the extradition of 80 Yemenis being held in the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay.

Many of those participating in the protest were family members of those being detained, Alsahwah.net said Monday. They called on the United States to turn over the detainees in accordance with international law.

The group said 58 of the 94 detainees are not being held on terrorism-related grounds.

The group handed a formal request to an embassy representative and Yemeni government officials said they would take up the protesters' concerns with U.S. counterparts.
