Celebrities join Chinese advisory group

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- The Chinese government finalized its list of national political advisers, which includes former NBA star Yao Ming and action movie star Jackie Chan.

Mo Yan, who won the Nobel Prize for literature last year, was among the members of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, which was adopted Friday by the CPPCC's National Committee.

The committee is made up of 2,237 members who come from all walks of life, including members of non-Communist political parties, China's official Xinhua news agency said.

The group will attend next month's opening of the National People's Congress.
