The father called emergency services at around 2 p.m. after the boy collapsed, apparently from heat exhaustion.

Police said the pair had not been carrying much water, despite temperatures soaring to 104 degrees that day.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene treated the boy, but his condition deteriorated. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Ewan and his father, who is from Geraldton, had been staying around 260 miles north of Perth.
