Drone strike kills 4 militants in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A strike by a U.S. drone aircraft killed four suspected militants Saturday in a house in northwest Pakistan, Pakistan authorities say.

The attack on members of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group occurred in the Degan area of North Waziristan, Khaama Press reported.

Members of the Haqqani network, which is affiliated with the Taliban, also operate in that region.

The Bahadur group is believed to have carried out frequent attacks against U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Pakistani officials said at least four missiles were fired, Voice of American reported.

Drone strikes remain a contentious issue in relations between the United States and Pakistan. Pakistan says such attacks violate its sovereignty, but Washington maintains they are important in the fight to defeat al-Qaida.
