Mubarak's son argues against Tora transfer

CAIRO, July 24 (UPI) -- Gamal Mubarak appealed a decision on the transfer his father, former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, to Tora prison.

Gamal Mubarak argued in court Monday about a report by the chief medical examiner treating his father that stated the former president's health improved during his stay in a military hospital, which led to his transfer to Tora prison hospital, al-Masry al-Youm reported Tuesday.

"The chief medical examiner was not following on my father's health. He doesn't know about his history," Gamal Mubarak said.

The younger Mubarak also submitted a complaint to Tora prison officers, demanding his father be returned to military hospital for health reasons.

Maj. Gen. Mohamed Naguib, deputy interior minister for prisons, said the elder Mubarak's health is stable and his medical care has been overseen as any other prisoner's, al-Masry al-Youm said.

Naguib said the medical team following Mubarak's case submits a daily report to the Interior Minister per a decision by Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud to provide the former ruler with adequate healthcare.

"According to medical reports, he [Mubarak] sometimes feels shortness of breath," Naguib said. "His psychological condition is poor, especially after his transfer from the military hospital. Doctors face difficulties dealing with him and giving him medicine, which led to transferring his son Gamal to stay with him."
