55 arrested at Moscow's Red Square

MOSCOW, April 1 (UPI) -- Moscow police arrested 55 anti-Vladimir Putin protesters who gathered at the gates of Red Square Sunday, authorities said.

About 350 people gathered at the square wearing white ribbons, holding hands and chanting "Russia with be free! Russia without Putin!," the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Police had closed Red Square citing "technical reasons," but protesters reassembled, ignoring police requests to disperse. One person was injured during the demonstration and was taken away by ambulance, RIA Novosti said.
