Visitor survives jump into lion den

MADRID, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A 40-year-old man who jumped into a pool in the lions' den at a zoo in Madrid was hospitalized in a psychiatric unit after the incident, staff said.

Witnesses said the man, for no apparent reason, jumped into a pen housing three Atlas lions at the Casa del Campo safari park, thinkSpain reported Wednesday.

When they arrived at the pen, staff said they found the man apparently unhurt although soaked after jumping into the pool. He was taken to a hospital for psychiatric observation, officials said.

The safari park is part of the Spanish capital's Aquarium Zoo.
