Strike disrupts 2 French airports

PARIS, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A strike by security staff disrupted outgoing flights at two major French airports Saturday morning, officials said.

The job action began Friday, a major travel day as many French families take a long Christmas break, Radio France Internationale reported.

Travelers leaving from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris faced major delays. Flights from Saint Exupery Airport in Lyon were canceled Friday and Saturday morning, although airport officials promised about 20 percent of those scheduled in the afternoon would depart.

A major storm moved across France late Thursday and Friday, and the strike added to flight disruptions.

The security workers are employed by subcontractors and are demanding higher pay and improved working conditions.

The strike has not affected Orly, the other major commercial airport in Paris, RFI said.
