Bomber killed in Nigerian attack

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- At least one person was killed and more than a dozen were injured when a bomb exploded in a residential area of Maidguri, Nigeria, officials said.

A suspected member of Boko Haram was killed Tuesday morning while trying to detonate the explosive and more than a dozen people were injured in the attack, which was targeted at a Joint Task Force patrol vehicle passing through the area.

Col. Victor Ebhaleme, field operations officer for the Joint Task Force, said a number of men and women were rescued from the home of an Islamic scholar that was set on fire as a result of the explosion, the Nigerian Tribune reported.
