BAGHDAD, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- An explosives-filled car that detonated in a market and attacks on three families in a village north of Baghdad Thursday killed 17 people, police said.
Ten people died and 23 were injured when a car driven by a suicide bomber exploded in an open-air market in Khalis, CNN reported.
The chairman of the National Reconciliation Representation panel said at least seven members of two families were killed and three members of another family were injured in attacks on three homes south of Baquba, Aswat al-Iraq reported.
"A group of al-Qaida armed men have attacked three families in their houses at al-Jib … south of Baquba, killing seven members of two families and wounding three others from another family," Khalid al-Luheiby said.
Police said the gunmen stormed the three houses, opening fire randomly while residents slept, CNN said.
Among the victims were two women and a child, police said.
