Kercher's dad doesn't want money from Knox

LONDON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- The father of slain British university student Meredith Kercher said his lawsuit against Amanda Knox in an Italian court is not an attempt to collect money.

"I find it distasteful that Knox stands to make millions from what happened to Meredith," John Kercher told The Sun. "I don't think anyone should make money out of it -- not us, not them."

Kercher described the civil action as symbolic like the $13 million his family was awarded by the trial jury.

So far, no book or movie deals have been announced for Knox, a former University of Washington student who spent more than three years behind bars in Italy while she was tried, convicted and then acquitted on appeal of killing Kercher. She was released earlier this year and is back in Seattle.

Meredith Kercher, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey, and a student at the University of Leeds, was spending a year in Perugia when she was killed in the house she shared with Knox. Prosecutors said Knox, her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and Rudy Guede, an immigrant from Ivory Coast, killed her during a drug-fueled sex game.

The appeals court found scientific evidence against Knox and Sollecito did not stand up under scrutiny. But John Kercher said he supports prosecutors' appeal to the Supreme Court.

He said the evidence shows Guede was not the only killer.
