STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Sweden's Supreme Court says it will not re-open an honor killing case, allowing a 10-year sentence against an Afghan couple to stand.
In Sweden's most recent "honor" killing, 20-year-old Abbas Rezai was found dead in an apartment in southern Sweden in November 2005.
Prosecutors alleged Rezai was killed because of his relationship with a family's 16-year-old daughter, and convicted the girl's brother, 17 at the time, of the killing, The Local reported Monday.
The parents, who were initially also implicated, were acquitted despite police saying it was almost impossible the boy could have acted alone.
A few years after the son's conviction, he claimed the parents had been involved and had coerced him into taking the blame.
The Court of Appeal believed the son and convicted his parents of the murder, sentencing them to 10 years in prison after which they will be deported to Afghanistan.
The Supreme Court, in deciding not to re-open the case, has let that sentence stand.
